Walter Girl Hair

I chopped my hair off. No, seriously, I cut it all off. Why, you ask, after over a year of growing it out, did I cut it off? Mostly because it was so damaged at the ends (before growing it out I had layered bleachings and dyes). It was frizzy and impossible to manage most of the time. For “mermaid training” I have to be in the pool, and chlorine just turned my hair to mush. So, for posterity, here’s a little photo documentation for you.

Here’s the “before” picture…

Gipsy Dharma Goodness!

My good friend Morticia Mermaid got a present from her man last week – some of the coveted Gipsy Dharma boots! She let me try on a pair, though I didn’t lace them to fit, so no pics of me wearing them. Instead, here’s a couple of Morticia instead!

Morticia Gipsy Dharma

She got several pairs in different colors, but I think the black is her favorite! ❤

I really like how adjustable they are! You lace up the various panels to fit your legs! 🙂 Just feast your eyes on that skin-tight, buttery-soft elfen goodness!

And since they have a zipper, once you have all the laces adjusted, putting on and removing them is so quick!

Gipsy Dharma runs regular contests/giveaways on their Facebook, and make sure to check out all of their beautiful offerings at WWW.GIPSYDHARMA.COM!

I’m not dead!

…Just busy busy busy. I’m working on a lot of costumes and things. Big costume photodump coming soon, I should think. I’ve been sick, so the going has been slow.

I’m finishing up my mermaid top, and thus will be putting together the full tutorial as well. (Step-by-step progress can be seen here: http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?5944-Miyu-s-first-shell-top!-Pic-heavy-Mini-tutorial)

I’m also finishing up one stretch velvet mermaid tail – all the pieces are cut, I’m making veining on the fins, and will be sewing the whole thing together shortly, as well as adding a few sequin “scale” patches.

I’m going to cut out the pieces for my wild-scale-print spandex tail soon as well, when I’m finished with the top. Thankfully I have a fake monofin made out of cardboard, coat hangers, and duct tape – I’m still dreaming of my own actual monofin as hard as I possibly can! 😛 I traced my friend’s Hydra monofin because I discovered I really like that monofin.

Also, finishing up my first cloak. Of course I’m ambitious and it’s a fancy cloak, I drafted the pattern based on Galadriel’s big fancy cloak from Lord of the Rings 😀

I’ve been busy! Links to all my pages!

Hi everyone! Okay, it looks like I might be able to get my ducks in a row and let my life calm down a little. I’ve been going crazy trying to set up business stuff and make sure I’m represented on all the important websites/social media! Let me take you on a little tour of my awesome new pages – with pictures of what I’ve been up to! (As always,  click photos to embiggen – links to pages will be under the pictures)

Crunch Time!

PANICPANICPANICPANIC!!!

Deadline’s this weekend. Last month, for some reason, I totally thought I’d have 10 more days to sew than I actually do.

Now it’s to that awesome point of the creative process wherein I panic for days. I may end up staying up a night or two to finish.

This is what an exhausted costumer looks like:

Just a quick hello!

Hi everyone! I know it’s been quiet here for a bit, I’m hoping to have the assistance to make a duct-tape dressform tomorrow! Most likely I won’t get the Christine outfit done by Halloween, but that’s ok, because I always have the makings for other costumes already in my wardrobe! I have to come up with a better Steampunk outfit, though, because I might be going to see Abney Park again soon! That would be EPIC, they are just the coolest people to be around!

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately!

Gotta have fun sometimes!

Gotta have fun sometimes!

Yep, I’m a blonde now! And not just in the process of going pink or blue or whatever! I’m thinking of staying just blonde for a while. Maybe some pink or blue tips or something, I dunno.

Yep, it’s not all the same colour – I was overly cautious with my (no longer) virgin hair because I was terrified of frying my hair and losing a bunch after working so hard to grow it out and stay away from the scissors. That’s ok, because in a week or two I’ll get some more bleach and finish lifting the last of my brown out. I’m going for silvery-white blonde, like all the most awesome alt models I know of, LOL! Like I said, though, I’ll probably throw a bit of cotton candy colour in there at some point… I can’t resist the cute sometimes!

On another note, I’m wondering if it would be better for “branding” (LOL like anyone knows me yet) if all my blogs were together? I don’t know, I can be obsessive about organization and compartmentalization, so I like the idea of having a different blog for each different group of my interests, but uh… I have a lot of interests. More than the average blogger, anyways. I make lots of things, and talk about lots of things, and will eventually do even more lots of things… My favorite bloggers I think all just have one main blog, but their lives seem so… focused compared to mine. What do you folks think?

SHAMELESS PROMOTION! Don’t forget to check out my other blog, http://historicbeauty.wordpress.com/ ! There’s recipes and stuff, and some horrible pictures of my skin! I’ll be posting a new tutorial on stripping hair dye with vitamin C soon.

Dream a Dream…

Warning: This post deals with emotions and feelz big time. If you’re only interested in happy fun time, this is not the post for you. In this post, I type, uncensored and honestly, about my biggest insecurity. If you want a real, honest, and raw blog post from a real person pouring her heart out, read on…

I’m still shaking from the most moving musical experience I think I’ve ever witnessed in my life…

A slight delay…

Hello blogosphere… It’s been a few days since my last update. Here’s why:

I finished sewing up the front of the bodice. It sits very nicely on me now! Without all those hooks and eyes on the front, there’s no puckering, so the front is nice and smooth and flat now, ideal for decorating.

So I set about to make the pattern to cut out my velvet pieces. However, the base bodice itself is made of a slightly stretchy material. This means that no matter what I do, laying it flat isn’t going to give me an accurate pattern. Add to this the fact that the velvet has just a little more stretch than the base fabric, and it means that, after cutting and sewing everything together, it may not fit me properly.

I have a solution, though – I’ll be making a duct tape double, a mannequin in my exact size and proportions. This will save me so much time and hair-pulling, since, for the first time in all the years I’ve been costuming, I’ll be able to drape, draft, and fit things properly to myself! I’m so excited!

FIRST BLOG POST!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Woohoo! Hello blogging world! *waves* This is my first blog post ever!

I’ve been meaning to start a blog for some time now, particularly for my crafting. What made me finally decide to do so was the decision to dress as Christine Daae from Phantom of the Opera for Halloween this year (really, it’s just an excuse to make things I want to wear – I don’t usually get to go anywhere for the holiday, but I wear costumes whenever I feel like it). This means that I must suck it up and stop being terrified of my sewing machine. Really, you’re going to laugh when I show you my cute little sewing machine my dad gave me. There’s absolutely nothing scary about it!

…Other than the fact that it’s a machine, and I am notoriously afraid of machines. I don’t drive, and the only reason I get along okay with blenders and juicers is because they give me tasty nutritious foodstuffs.

Well, alright… I get along just fine with sewing machine once they’re set up. It’s the whole bobbin-making and threading and tension-setting that terrifies me…

Anyways, Halloween is approaching quickly, which means I absolutely have to make friends with my machine. This is a good thing, as it means I’ll already be on a roll when I finish this costume, then I can get working on finishing all the dresses and skirts I’ve been sewing by hand for way too long (then, since one skirt can take a month of hand sewing, I get distracted and lose interest, so I have a lot of unfinished projects).

Bear with me, this site will be under constant construction until I get the hang of this blogging thing down…
